Officially Bruneian: 725 receive citizenship certificates

“It’s a dream come true for me today. I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the citizenship grant,” said Mohammad Adnan bin Abdullah Balakrishnan, 45, from the Belait District during the presentation of citizenship certificates to 725 individuals at the Bridex Hall in Jerudong yesterday.

Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was present as the guest of honour and presented the certificates to the recipients.

During the ceremony, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin said, “We as the citizen need to defend and preserve the current environment that we have enjoyed so far. This means respecting each other regardless of race or religion.

“It also means supporting the efforts of the government in developing and maintaining the nation’s sovereignty and the national philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB).”

Several recipients expressed their gratitude to His Majesty.

Forty-year-old Muhammad Shah Hamizan bin Abdullah David@Rosman anak David from Temburong District said, “When I received the call that I was granted citizenship, I was in disbelief. I thought I was dreaming.

“I am really happy to become a citizen of Brunei. I would like to thank His Majesty for the citizenship.

Meanwhile, Haslina binti Haji Bujang who owns an employment agency said, “Alhamdulillah, I feel blessed.

“Thank you to His Majesty for granting citizenship to me. As a citizen, I will continue to support the country’s vision.”
