NY mayor accused of sex assault

MOSCOW (Bernama-Sputnik) — A woman has accused New York City Mayor Eric Adams of sexually assaulting her in 1993, Sputnik quoted US media report on Thursday.

The woman filed a summons under New York’s Adult Survivors Act against Adams, the New York Police Department (NYPD) and two other unknown entities, ABC News reported.

Adams was reportedly a police captain at the time of the alleged incident, while the woman also worked for the NYPD. She claims she was sexually assaulted by Adams and suffered physical, psychological, and other damage as a result, the report said.

A City Hall spokesperson said the mayor did not know or did not remember the woman and “vigorously” rejected her claim.

A source told ABC News that the NYPD also denied that the woman had ever worked for it.

The Washington Post reported Thursday, citing a new court summons filed under the state’s Adult Survivors Act, that the plaintiff also accused Adams of battery and employment discrimination based on her gender and sex, retaliation, hostile work environment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Summons were also filed against the NYPD’s Transit Bureau and the Guardians Association of the NYPD.

The lawsuit against the mayor and the departments asks for “an amount to be determined at trial but in no event less than” USD5 million, as well as attorneys’ fees and interest, the report said.
