NXplorers Young Innovators programme kicks off

Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) through Seria Energy Lab (SEL), introduced the pilot programme of NXplorers Young Innovators in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Department of Schools, Science Technology Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL) in preparation for the international FIRST Global Challenge in Athens, Greece and the Petrosains RBTX Challenge in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The foundation of the NXplorers Young Innovators began with the NXplorers workshop where over 95 students aged 14-15 from 15 schools in Brunei explored global issues related to the food, water and energy stress nexus. They developed problem-solving skills and using the Design Tinker module, students were able to create solutions for issues they were passionate about.

In the next phase of the NXplorers Young Innovators, students will enhance their skills in coding and circuitry by completing the ‘CircuiTech Wizard’ (CTW) workshop facilitated by SEL.

With the skills and knowledge gained from the workshops, students will be able to select one of the three pathways that will equip them with the skills needed for the national and international competitions expected to take place in June and October.

The three pathways are MegaTrex, Innovation and Sumo Robotics, in which all will be facilitated and mentored by trainers from UTB, UBD, SEL and BSP.

The NXplorers Young Innovators programme is an initiative led by BSP through SEL to solely focus on promoting ‘STEAM Habits of Mind’ among the Bruneian youth.
