The number of cases in the third COVID-19 wave in the Sultanate is likely to exceed the number of cases in the second wave, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar yesterday.

However, the minister said, the number of cases in Categories 4 and 5 are expected to remain low in the current wave.

“We should continue to be prepared for the increase in Omicron cases. COVID-19 will be with us, and we have to live with it, together.

“Additional measures such as stringent restrictions will not have a significant impact on the number of cases,” the minister said. “Therefore, the public must continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines set by the government and practise our social responsibility as we live with COVID-19.”

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham also advised the public to get the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, wear well-fitted face masks when being around people, practise social distancing and maintain personal hygiene at all times.

“In addition, get regularly tested using the ART (antigen rapid test) kit, ensure indoor spaces have good ventilation, use the BruHealth app when entering premises and reporting health status, stay at home when unwell, and get check-ups if flu-like symptoms arise. If you are tested positive for COVID-19, follow the health protocols to manage the infection,” the minister added.
