The rate of students testing positive for COVID-19 is 0.5 per cent while the rate of undertaking remote learning due to infections is also 0.5 per cent.

This was revealed by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at a press conference yesterday.

The minister added, “This shows that there is no increase in the rate of infection, and the source of contagion is their homes. To date, there are no school-based clusters.”

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said that based on information from countries hit by the Omicron variant, the increase in COVID-19 cases is projected to persist until the end of the month.

The Sultanate recorded 1,125 new cases yesterday.

The minister said there is a surge in cases in companies, and their ability to continue operating will depend on their business continuity plan (BCP) and the size of the workforce, adding that companies with more employees and a sound BCP are more able to carry out business as usual.

He said with the spike in COVID-19 cases, numbering over 4,000 in a short period, the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) manpower is stretched. Several services have been put on hold and staff diverted to care for patients at isolation centres.

However, volunteers from other ministries stepped up to assist the MoH.

The minister said more are expected to come forward to help the ministry contain the third wave of COVID-19 outbreak.

“It is not an easy task as the volunteers will have to come in contact with COVID-19 patients,” he added.
