Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar yesterday highlighted global findings on multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS) among young children and adolescents after being infected with COVID-19.

He said there have been cases of MIS in children below the age of 12 in the Sultanate but no cases have thus far been found in those aged 12-17, a group that has “achieved the 100-per cent target”.

As of Wednesday, 31.5 per cent of children aged 5-11 have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while the booster rate in the general population is 63.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, 181 new cases of COVID-19 were reported yesterday, bringing the national tally to 140,723, he said, adding that there were no fatalities recorded in the 24-hour cycle.

The minister continued, “From the latest number of infections detected, 15 cases were results of 468 RT-PCR laboratory tests.”

He revealed two Category 5 patients are in the intensive care unit, while one Category 4 patient receiving oxygen assistance is under close monitoring.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham also said, “A total of 112 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 139,409. There are 1,096 cases at present, with 28 cases receiving treatment in hospitals and 1,068 cases undergoing home isolation.”
