A 58-year-old local man was sentenced to nine months’ jail yesterday after he was discovered recording videos in the female toilet at his workplace.
Lim Soon Cheng pleaded guilty to the charge, stating that he installed his phone in the toilet’s ceiling to record women.
The court was informed that the defendant had never married and worked as a supervisor at a corporation in Lumut, where he had worked for the past 10 years.
Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Ahmad Ghazali that a plumber doing repair works in the toilet discovered the mobile phone in video recording mode, attached to a power bank as he lifted the ceiling panels on January 24.
He reported his findings, which came to the attention of the head of department, who then discussed it with security personnel.
The defendant came forward and admitted it was his doing.
A police report was lodged leading to the defendant’s arrest.
Investigations revealed that the defendant had done it daily for the past week but only managed to record one video of a woman using the toilet. The footage had since been deleted.
