SEOUL (ANN/THE KOREA HERALD) – K-pop sensation NewJeans soared to the top of Oricon’s daily singles chart on Friday with their debut Japanese single album, “Supernatural.” The group, known for their catchy tunes and powerful performances, has quickly captured the hearts of fans across both Korea and Japan.
“Supernatural,” the lead track from the album, immediately secured the top position on various Japanese music platforms including Line Music and AWA, showcasing the group’s growing popularity in the region. Back home, the song also made waves on Melon’s Top 100 chart, peaking at an impressive No 13.
NewJeans continues to dominate with a total of 10 songs on Melon’s chart, including their recent Korean hits “How Sweet” and “Bubble Gum,” which landed at No 2 and 5 respectively since their release on May 24.
The music video for “Supernatural” further bolstered the group’s global presence, ranking No 2 on YouTube’s Global Daily Top Music Videos chart as of June 21. The song itself, a nostalgic new jack swing anthem, saw collaboration from renowned pop star Pharrell Williams, who contributed to its composition and lyrics.
In addition to “Supernatural,” the quintet’s debut Japanese single album features the track “Right Now,” along with instrumental versions of both songs.
Fans can catch NewJeans performing their latest hits live on TBS’ “CDTV Live! Live!” this coming Monday, where they are expected to showcase their dynamic stage presence and infectious energy.
