Hilmy bin Haji Ahmad, 53, was chosen by 124 out of 140 residents of RPN Kampong Panchor Zone 3 as their new village head during the election at RPN Kampong Panchor Mengkubau Recreational Park yesterday.
Hilmy, a graduate from Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College, had been serving as the residential area’s acting village head.
The result of the vote is forwarded to the Board of Appointment, Discipline and Procedures for the Mukim Penghulu and Village Head for further action.
“A village head is a medium between the government and residents,” said Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubaarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim, adding that they also play a role in negotiation, discussion and dialogue with residents regarding matters concerning the development and well-being of residents and the country.
“The village head also needs to be aware of the issues faced by residents, and carry out their duties by providing services to those in need. The village head is the caretaker of the people and residents of the village,” he said. – Rokiah Mahmud
