Construction on a new 51,000-square-feet data centre under Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN) began after company officials took part in the groundbreaking ceremony at UNN Tungku Submarine Landing Station yesterday.

The new facility that will host data and information technology services is expected to be completed in five months and expected to open by early 2024, said the company.

The company also said it worked together with Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure, to design and construct UNN data centre as an eco-efficient infrastructure that is in line with Brunei’s digitisation roadmap and to ensure on meeting the country’s increasing digital needs.

The prefabricated modular data centre design, comprising 200 racks provided by Vertiv, offers deployment speed that is 30 per cent faster than traditional builds.

He said there is also progress with the provision of a second independent power feed from the Berakas Power Company Sdn Bhd to ensure resiliency and high availability of the data centre.

The UNN CEO added that the new data centre comes at the right time, “as our fiberisation project is in its final phase and 5G services were just launched in June”.

He said the data centre will add to UNN’s capacity to further enable companies in Brunei to achieve goals in the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025. – James Kon
