Unified Smart Metering System (USMS) allows users to easily monitor water and electricity usage so that they can control and avoid wastage while also providing customers the convenience to pay for utilities credit via the application which can even be accessed abroad.

This was said by DST Network Sdn Bhd Senior Manager Rosniah binti Haji Karia during a briefing on USMS at the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex, Tutong District yesterday.

The event was organised by the Department of Electrical Services, Department of Water Services and DST Network for the district’s penghulus and village heads to spread awareness of the new system’s greater efficiency and more benefits for consumers.

Legislative Council members – Mukim Ukong Penghulu Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub and Kampong Sengkarai Village Head Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan were among the attendees.

The event opened with a speech by Department of Water Services Acting Assistant Director Haji Ashrulsuhardy bin Haji Ibrahim followed by Rosniah’s briefing.

The senior manager said USMS can be topped up without a card or keying in numbers manually. Users can check the balance using phones, online or through authorised retail stores known as e-dealers.

To date, 4,000 houses and commercial units have USMS installed nationwide.

A similar briefing was held in Brunei-Muara District which will be followed by Belait and Temburong districts soon.
