New programme poised to enrich skills, elevate automotive services: Minister

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah lauded Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd’s (BSM) visionary initiative through the Master Mechanics programme, during an official launching at Tarindak D’Seni yesterday.

He expressed confidence that the programme will significantly benefit mechanics in the country, nurture development and enhance automotive skills.

The automotive sector, he said, “will always be a viable career choice for jobseekers despite the challenges and the programme provides a platform for job opportunities and business support for mechanics interested in managing their own workshops”.

The minister also noted that 667 technical students have graduated from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) as mechanics over the past five years with 60 per cent employed as mechanics.

“This is where leaders in the automotive industry can come together and play a role to improve this scene,” said the minister.

He added that mechanics will have the responsibility to keep up with the changes and be at the forefront of customer service and business innovation and their ability to do so will hinge on their commitment to continuously upgrade their skills.

“I urge leaders in the automotive industry to recognise the value of car mechanics and the importance of upgrading their skills and knowledge. We need to view these as an investment, not just for you and your mechanics but for the automotive industry as a whole,” the minister said. – Lyna Mohamad
