The academic cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Iran reached another milestone with the launch of seven books written and co-edited by Universiti Teknologi Brunei’s (UTB) Faculty of Engineering senior assistant professor Dr Rama Rao Karri and Tehran University of Medical Services’ Department of Environmental Engineering Professor Mohammad Hadi Dehghani.
UTB Vice Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman was among the attenees at the event held at UTB.
Outgoing Iranian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Homeira Rigi Zirouki in her welcoming address said, “Today we celebrate the impact of knowledge and academic cooperation in fostering growth in the scientific community and strengthening ties between both nations.”
The outgoing Iranian Ambassador also thanked UTB Centre for Communication, Teaching and Learning (CCTL) Associate Professor Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid for her support and dedication which have been a source of inspiration in the realms of acadmic pursuit and public diplomacy.
Dr Malai Zeiti said that she is in the midst of writing books on cultural literacy, a project under UTB involving all the embassies and high commissions in the country. The project will be completed in the coming years.
Homeira Rigi Zirouki also presented copies of the newly-launched books to Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah.
The event also saw a poetry reading in Iranian, English and Malay.
Before concluding, two Iranian footballers playing for Kasuka FC presented football jerseys to the outgoing ambassador and the UTB vice chancellor. – James Kon
