New Legislative Council appointed

By command of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, His Majesty has consented to the appointment of the new members of the Legislative Council (LegCo).

The appointments are effective starting today.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib has been appointed as Speaker.

Ex-Officio members include His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam as Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Finance and Economy and Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah as Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Other Ex-Offico members of the new LegCo are Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim, Special Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei  Darussalam and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman as Minister of Religious Affairs; Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof as Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd lsham bin Haji Jaafar as Minister of Health; Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah as Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II; Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof as Minister of Foreign Affairs II; Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman as Minister of Home Affairs; Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin as Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid as Minister of Development; Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh as Minister of Education; Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha as Minister of Transport and Infocommunications; Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad as Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

 

Titled persons appointed to the new LegCo are: Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji lbrahim; Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusuf; Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Suyoi bin Haji Osman.

Persons who have achieved distinction appointed to the new LegCo are: Hajah Safiah binti Sheikh Haji Abdul Salam; Lau How Teck; Chong Chin Yee; Dr Haji Mahali bin Haji Momin; Haji Salleh Bostaman bin Haji Zainal Abidin; Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Momin; and Pengiran Haji lsa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin.

Representatives for Brunei-Muara District appointed to the new LegCo are: Amran bin Haji Maidin as Penghulu Mukim Lumapas, Lawi bin Haji Lamat as Village Head of Kampong Subok, Brunei-Muara District; Zainol bin Mohamed as Village Head of Kampong Putat; Mohamad Ali bin Tanjong as Village Head of Kampong Lumapas ‘B’; and Haji Daud bin Jihan as Village Head of Kampong Belimbing.

Representatives for Belait District are: Salleh bin Haji Othman as Penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat; Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann as Village Head of Kampong Bukit Sawat.

Representatives of Tutong District are: Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub as Penghulu of Mukim Ukong; and Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan as Village Head of Kampong Sengkarai.

The representative of Temburong District is Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir as Village Head of Kampong Labu Estate and Piasau-Piasau.

Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar is appointed as Clerk to the LegCo.
