Minister of Health Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar yesterday hoped that the implementation of the new foreign worker medical insurance will help to resolve the issue of arrears derived from medical treatment. The minister was speaking at the 21st Legislative Council session yesterday in response to inquires on arrears.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham shared the arrears basically is about insurance coverage and old arrears where the patients can no longer be traced despite using all available options. He added it is the initiative of the ministry to work with relevant agencies to conduct study on insurance services for foreign workers whereby the Ministry of Health has proposed insurance coverage for foreigners to be increased to BND100,000 as shared by Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman previously.
He highlighted with the implementation of such policy in the future, there will not be arrears from patients especially patients who are not citizens or permanent residents. – James Kon
