Avid hikers and fitness enthusiasts now have more options for their outdoor activities with the official opening of another hiking spot in Brunei-Muara District.

Bukit Menangis Recreational Park (TRBM), located in Keruhai, Kampong Lumapas ‘B’, was officially opened in a ribbon cutting ceremony by Acting Village Head of Kampong Lumapas ‘B’ Ali bin Tanjong yesterday, who also led the morning hike up the trail.

TRBM committee chairman Jumat bin Mohd Daud, in his welcoming remarks, shared that after striking a mutual agreement with the villagers at Jalan Kecil Pawas in Kampong Lumapas ‘B’ to turn the hill into a recreational park, the work to pave way for making the trail hiking-ready began on February 13, 2021. However, due to the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases, they had to temporarily halt until the Endemic Phase was announced.

The committee continued clearing and cleaning the area, which was no easy task as there were several obstructions. Nonetheless, the project was a success.

“Today marks a historical day for the village, as we open our own recreational park rich in flora and fauna. The trail is not as wide as most places as we want to preserve the natural rich green atmosphere and the numerous spots in the park that come with unique legendary stories,” said the chairman.

The construction work not only served to create a recreational spot, but also promoting to visitors that Kampong Lumapas ‘B’ has its own legendary and historical spots, including the legendary tale of a strong warrior during the Nakhoda Ragam era named Keruhai, narrated from generation to generation.

The event also saw the recitation of Doa Selamat read by Imam of Kampong Lumapas Mosque, followed by the hiking session led by the guest of honour.

The event also saw a creative walking stick competition, followed by a prize presentation to
the winners.

The TRBM plot of land belongs to Mohd Johari bin Haji Tahir and Untong bin Mohammad while the sponsors for the construction works were Loo Kuan Look and Haji Abdul Wahab bin Haji Abu Bakar.
