New COVID-19 cases on downward trend

Brunei Darussalam recorded a decreasing trend of new COVID-19 cases last week whereby the average daily rate of cases last week was 223 cases per day, compared to 350 cases per day in the previous week.

A total of 38,751 antigen rapid test (ART) results were uploaded to the BruHealth application within one week of which four per cent were positive. The decreasing trend was announced by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, in the weekly press conference.

The minister also shared that 170 new cases were reported yesterday, where all the positive cases were the results of ART tests and no cases were detected from RT-PCR laboratory tests.

Meanwhile, there are no cases in Category 5 and Category 4 requiring treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), respiratory assistance or close supervision.

As of January 15, he said, “the rate of vaccination coverage of COVID-19 in the Sultanate remained at a high level 79 per cent of all citizens and residents had received the third dose of the COVID- 19 vaccine and 11.7 per cent also had been administered the fourth dose”.

Also in attendance at the press conference was Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Dr Ang Swee Hui.
