The Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) yesterday announced that Haji Abdullah Soefri bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin has been appointed as Chairman of the Competition Commission of Brunei Darussalam (CCBD) effective November 25, 2023.
According to the ministry, the new chairman will be joined by six senior officers, including four new appointments.
They are: Permanent Secretary (Economy, Trade and Industry) at the MoFE Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin; Permanent Secretary (Infrastructure, Housing and Professional) at the Ministry of Development Ir Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria; Assistant Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Chambers Hajah Suriana binti Haji Radin; Director of the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division at the MoFE Allen On Hsien Yung; Acting Deputy Director-General of the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at the MoFE Heidi Farah Sia Abdul Rahman; and lecturer at the School of Business and Economics, Universiti Brunei Darussalam Dr Haji Roslee bin Haji Baha.
The CCBD was established on August 1, 2017, as an independent body with the mandate to promote business competition and to enhance market efficiency and consumer welfare in the Sultanate, in line with the economic goals of Brunei Vision 2035. – James Kon
