Menglait Secondary School welcomed 168 Year 7 students on the start of the new school term during an orientation ceremony at the school’s Melati Hall yesterday. Welcoming the new intake was school principal Haji Huzaimi bin Haji Moksin, who highlighted the importance of attendance.
He said, “It is vital for students to achieve at least 90 per cent of attendance. According to student’s achievements in the past, a student’s performance is adversely impacted with an attendance record of less than 90 per cent.”
The principal also outlined several reasons of students absenteeism including sleeping late due playing games, browsing the Internet or social media, loitering until late night, transportation issues, frequent health problems, lateness and frequent early dismissal.
The event also saw a briefing followed by the reading of student’s oath led by the school young leaders and uniformed student representatives.
The students will attend briefings regarding the school and their future career as well as a morning warm-up exercise and learning activities tomorrow. – James Kon
