The Baiduri Masters’ original Challenge Trophy was introduced in 2008. The trophy is torso-sized and mounted on a wooden base, with a plaque bearing the names of previous champions.
However, what it lacked in striking features, it more than made up for in lustre. It is one of the most sought-after pieces of silverware in the Sultanate. Mohd Aritz Maldini bin Haji Abdul Majid was the last man to hoist that trophy and will remain the final champion to do so.
Its successor is a stark contrast – a one-off, intricate piece of art. Picked to commemorate the 25th edition of The Baiduri Masters this year, the new Challenge Trophy is a multi-coloured pillar of inclusivity – molten glass which was patiently blown at specific temperatures to form a trophy worthy of any champion.
Baiduri Bank Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Business Development cum Vice President of The Baiduri Masters 2023 Pengiran Azaleen bin Pengiran Dato Haji Mustapha said, “The Baiduri Masters is, first and foremost, a charity initiative which has raised funds for organisations who work with people with different disabilities or needs and helps them integrate into society.”
“To celebrate 25 years of giving back, we wanted a trophy which would reflect The Baiduri Masters’ storied history of inclusivity. The different colours of the trophy represent all the elements that encapsulate what the tournament is all about – enterprising communities working together to improve the welfare of their society.”
The new Challenge Trophy and the Green Jacket will be looking for their next owner, while a single drive is all it will take to win a BMW iX3, MINI Cooper 3 Door Brick Lane Edition or BND20,000.
Registration for the competition is now open. Interested players can confirm their participation by submitting their forms and payment in full at the registration counter of the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club.
