    Netflix’s ‘Physical: 100’ Season 2 raises stakes

(ANN/KOREA HERALD) – The producers of Netflix Korea’s hit survival competition show, “Physical: 100,” announced on Thursday that the upcoming second season will showcase a formidable lineup of participants, including renowned national athletes, who will face increasingly challenging quests.

In “Physical: 100,” 100 contestants engage in survival matches to determine the ultimate physical fitness champion, with the winner receiving a prize of 300 million won (USD228,000).

The show’s first season, launched last year, achieved global acclaim by becoming the first Korean variety show to top Netflix’s global top 10 chart for non-English TV shows. Over six consecutive weeks, the nine-part series accumulated over 192 million viewing hours, surpassing popular Korean original dramas such as “Hellbound” and “Juvenile Justice.”

For the second season, titled “Physical: 100 Season 2 Underground,” producers have assembled a roster predominantly comprised of professional athletes. Nearly 30 per cent of the participants are incumbent or former national athletes, including Olympic wrestling gold medalist Jung Ji-hyun and Olympic judo gold medalist Lee Won-hee.

In addition to featuring elite athletes, the new season will present even more challenging tasks. Jang Ho-gi, producer of “Physical: 100 Season 2 Underground,” emphasised the need to design quests that defy participants’ expectations and ramp up the difficulty level.

“A slew of former and incumbent national athletes who enjoyed the first season joined us for this season,” Jang remarked during a press conference in Mapo-gu, Seoul. “They have likened the experience to participating in international sports games.”

The eagerly awaited first episode of “Physical: 100 Season 2 Underground” is scheduled to stream on Netflix on Tuesday.
