Zone 4 Angud emerged winners in the open category of the netball tournament organised by the Lun Bawang Murut Brunei Association (PLBMB) held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
Zone 1 Isuut finished runners-up while Zone 1 Munga settled for third place.
Meanwhile in the veteran category, Zone 1 Remet won top place followed by Zone 5 Ulong and Zone 4 Ganit in second and third spot.
In recognition for excellent individual performance, Erra Ennyswana binti Awang from Zone 1 Munga scooped the best player award in the open category while Hartini binti Ajak from Zone 1 Remet was awarded the best veteran player award.
Six teams competed in the open category while three teams took part in the veteran category.
President of PLBMB Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Tamin bin Tuah in his speech during the launch of Irau Tupeh Padey for 2024 and the championship said, “This tournament would be an excellent platform for highlighting talented players, improving the skills and experience for both individuals and teams especially to enhance the quality of Murut tribe sports.”
He added, “It is hoped that the sports working committee can evaluate and select participants who have potential or skills to represent this association to play to the level of the 2025 National Sports Festival Championship and subsequently represent the association overseas.”
He also expressed hopes that the players can show a high quality of play and professionalism whilst having fun.
Director of Youth and Sports Development Zainab binti Haji Morsidi was the guest of honour at the event. – Fadhil Yunus
