Neighbours extinguish house fire; one injured

Two neighbours extinguished a fire in a bedroom at a house in Jalan Binglu Barat, RPN Kampong Tanah Jambu on Wednesday.

One person was injured while no fatalities were reported.

The fire damaged the bedroom on the first floor of the two-storey terrace house, where three individuals were staying.

The injured person was handed over to the paramedics.

Seven firefighters and two fire engines from the Muara Fire station, led by Assistant Station Officer Haji Kamal bin Haji Judin, were dispatched to the scene, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD). The firefighters on arrival, found the fire had been extinguished by a firefighter, ABK 1140 Alinor bin Haji Zanai and another neighbour, Azmi bin Bujang.

The cause and damages of the fire are under investigation.

The public is reminded to ensure their homes are equipped with fire extinguishers of the dry powder type, fire blankets and battery-operated smoke detectors.

Meanwhile, wiring and electrical equipment installation should be done by qualified technicians while electrical appliances should be switched off after use or before leaving the house and the gas regulator should be covered and unplugged when not in use.
