While shopping at a commercial complex in Kampong Kilanas with my children, we were finishing a snack and looking for a place to dispose of our waste.
As we walked around, I noticed several empty cardboard boxes lying outside the shops, already filled with discarded plastic and used products. For a moment, I even considered throwing our trash into one of these boxes.
After circling the area for a while, my son eventually spotted a garbage chute behind the next shopping block. It was quite a distance away, and I couldn’t help but feel frustrated that I had to walk so far just to dispose of our snack wrappers.
On our way there, I noticed rubbish scattered along the sides of the walkway, which made me think that perhaps other people, too lazy to walk that far, had discarded their trash carelessly.
In my opinion, all shopping complexes should provide easily accessible garbage bins for customers to dispose of their waste properly. I’ve seen garbage bins conveniently placed at entry and exit points or near parking areas in other places, making it much easier for visitors to dispose of their trash responsibly.
We are constantly reminded to keep our environment clean and dispose of our waste properly, yet it is disappointing that such a frequented shopping area fails to provide even the most basic facilities, like garbage bins, for its customers.
This oversight not only makes the space less pleasant for everyone, but it also reflects poorly on the commitment to environmental responsibility.
