The High Commissioner of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam Laurence Bay Siow Hon witnessed the progress made in prioritising Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) between Brunei and Singapore, on his first visit to Kuala Belait as part of the opening ceremony for Beta Testing Services (BTS) Sdn Bhd.

The ceremony was held on September 21 with a ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by touring of the offices at the company’s headquarters in the Light Industrial Area, Kuala Belait.

The ceremony then continued at the Serikandi Ballroom, Jalan Tengah with an opening remark made by the Technical Manager/ NDT and ISO Trainer at BTS Sdn Bhd Balakrishnan Chandramohan, where he reaffirmed the company’s goals in helping to achieve the Brunei Vision 2035.

He also added that BTS is the first company registered with the National Standard Centre, under the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE).

Meanwhile, in the speech made by the High Commissioner of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam Laurence Bay Siow Hon noted that Brunei’s oil-and-gas sector has powered numerous industries, created thousands of jobs, and contributed to the modern development of the country.

“Companies like BTS play a crucial role by developing the necessary skills and capabilities in the field of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for the Bruneian workforce.”

He also added that by equipping systematic training and certification on NDT to Bruneians, they will be able to find quality jobs in industries such as oil and gas, maritime, aerospace, and many more.

“BTS has chosen to partner with the Non-Destructive Testing Society Singapore or NDTSS for its training and accreditation. BTS is also the first organisation in Brunei to be accredited by NDTSS. Such collaboration between the private sector on both sides augurs well for the economic cooperation between Singapore and Brunei, and I hope it will pave the way for many other opportunities in the future.”

The High Commissioner noted that the close collaboration between BTS and the NDTSS is a positive showcase for how the special relationship between Singapore and Brunei, two of the smallest countries in Southeast Asia, has borne fruit for our respective populations.

“The key message I want to leave with you is that all these initiatives will not only strengthen our cooperation for years to come but they will also serve to benefit our respective populations. Singapore and Brunei may be small nations, but there is much that we can do together.”

“I would therefore strongly encourage Bruneian and Singapore companies to follow the example of BTS, by tapping on each other’s expertise and networks to achieve commercial success,” he concluded.

In highlighting how the close collaboration between BTS and NDTSS has been beneficial for the safety of the industry, the certification chairman of the NDTSS Dickson Tan Beng Siew also shared the various worldwide activities as well as the investments made into ensuring that the necessary skills and tools are properly implemented for the worker’s safety.

To commemorate the occasion, tokens of appreciation were handed out to the High Commissioner and certification chairman by the General Manager of BTS Melvin Hon.
