The annual nationwide takbir to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha took place last night across all mosques, suraus and prayer halls in Brunei Darussalam with Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong being the focal point of the occasion.
The event featured the mursal and mutlaq takbirs which were recited from sunset until the imam began the Hari Raya Aidiladha prayer. These takbirs can be performed anytime, unlike the muqayyad takbir, which is specifically recited after obligatory prayers and is unique to Hari Raya Aidiladha and for those performing the haj pilgrimage.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman was present at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah along with Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the MoRA Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Hardifadhillah bin Haji Mohd Salleh.
The ceremony saw a talk on ‘Life is a Sacrifice’ by Ahmad Muzhafar bin Haji Marsidi from the Islamic Da’wah Centre.
The takbir recitations were performed by groups from various institutions including the Brunei-Muara District Mosque Youth, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Prisons Department, Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School and Youth Al-Quran Reading Scheme (STAR).
The nationwide takbir was aimed at fostering a pious community, enhancing understanding of takbir’s significance and strengthening communal bonds while encouraging mosque engagement and love for the religious institution. – Fadley Faisal
