Nationwide operation detects host of violations

A host of violations were detected during a massive joint operation in the capital on Monday night, involving 177 law enforcers.

A operation was also conducted in the Belait District. The Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) detained three individuals in possession of alcohol and cigarettes, while the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) detained 17 foreigners for failing to show valid documents during the operation in the capital.

Meanwhile, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained two local men for violating Section 1 (b), Chapter 27 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Two premises were found to have illegally installed a meter bypass, an offence under Section 9(1) (a), Chapter 71 of the Electricity Act and unauthorised connection without going through a meter to another residence, which is an offence under Section 9(1) (a) and (b), Chapter 71 of the Electricity Act.

The Labour Department found 11 rooms without any safety equipment and another room violating Section 112 (2) of the Employment Order 2009.

The Brunei-Muara District Office fined an individual for illegal dumping, while the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department found rubbish at an access pathway of Bangunan Aman Sentosa Flat in Jalan Kianggeh and five abandoned vehicles at the junction of Jalan Kumbang Pasang.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in a statement said personnel from the Brunei-Muara Police District, the Royal Customs and Excise Department, the Narcotics Control Bureau, the Immigration and National Registration Department, the Internal Security Department, the Labour Department, the Brunei-Muara District Office, the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, the Religious Enforcement Division under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Department of Electrical Services took part in the operation in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The operation’s objective was to ensure that events held in conjunction with the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will run smoothly.

The operation started at 10.30pm, led by Acting Assistant Commanding Officer of Brunei-Muara Police District (operation), targeting three locations – Jalan Tasek, Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan Kumbang Pasang – and a road block in the vicinity of the Public Service Department building, Jalan Kumbang Pasang.

Meanwhile, in the Belait District, the RBPF on Monday night raided a residence at Jalan Kerma Negara. Twenty-two foreign nationals suspected of being involved in gambling activities were detained and the gambling equipment confiscated.

Among the agencies involved were the Kuala Belait Police Station, the Panaga Police Station, the Seria Police Station, the RBPF Criminal Intelligence Department, RCED, INRD, NCB and the Religious Enforcement Division at the MoRA.

The RCED also uncovered prohibited goods, including undeclared cans and bottles of liquor and cigarettes.

The case is being investigated under the Common Gaming House Act for offences connected with gaming houses and lotteries, and playing in a gaming house. – James Kon & Daniel Lim
