Nationwide cleanliness campaign begins

Some 406 kilogrammes of garbage were collected during the launch of a nationwide cleanliness campaign in Kampong Lamunin in Tutong District yesterday.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar as Co-Chairman of the Main Committee on Hygiene Issues launched the campaign involving public and private sectors, educational institutions, mukims and villages with the participation of around 400 people.

The campaign will see the ministries organising their own initiatives.

The campaign is aimed at initiating lasting change in the public’s cleanliness practices and encouraging a sense of community as well as raise awareness on the importance of keeping the environment clean. Cleanliness contributes to the well-being and safety of the community by reducing risks of health issues.

Legislative Council members and permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Development and Ministry of Home Affairs were present at the launch. – Azlan Othman
