National team in Malaysia for AFF preparations

Brunei Darussalam’s football team left the country for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday to begin their final preparations ahead of the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022.

The Wasps will be based in the Malaysian capital where they will play their home matches at the KLFA Stadium.

Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) Deputy President Haji Salleh Bostaman bin Haji Zainal Abidin and other FABD senior officials sent the team off at the Brunei International Airport.

The delegation is made up of 23 players and 14 officials, led by team manager Pengiran Haji Mohd Waslimin bin Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin and accompanied by assistant team manager Ah Chua Bangau.

The three goalkeepers in the squad are Haimie anak Nyaring, Isyhra Jabidi and Jefri Ishak.

The defenders will see the returning Yura Indera Yunos in the squad, Wafi Aminuddin, Hanif Hamir, Mu’iz Sisa, Alinur Jufri, Shahme Suhaimi, Shafie Effendy and Fakharrazi Hassan.

The midfield players include Nurikhwan Othman, Hendra Azam, Azwan Ali Rahman, Naziruddin Ismail, Azwan Salleh, Najib Tarif, Hakeme Yazid Said and Haziq Kasyful Azim.

The forwards are Adi Said, Azizi Ali Rahman, Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman and Razimie Ramlli.

Under the guidance of head coach Mario Rivera Campesino, the national team qualified for the main draw of the tournament for the first time in 26 years after winning 6-3 in a two-legged tie against Timor Leste.

Brunei will begin their group stage campaign against Thailand on December 20 before flying off to face Philippines three days later at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

They will return to their adapted home stadium on December 26 to play against Indonesia before concluding their group stage match against Cambodia on December 29 at the Morodok Techno National Stadium in Phnom Penh.
