The Brunei Darussalam national football team have announced a 23-member strong squad ahead of the upcoming fixture against Lebanon in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup final qualifying round at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium in Al-Wakrah, Qatar on March 26.
The Wasps have also left the Sultanate for Qatar to undergo final preparations before their kicking off their campaign in the group stage.
Three goalkeepers have been named namely Haimie Anak Nyaring, Wardun Yussof and Ishyra Asmin Jabidi.
The defenders comprised Wafiq Danish, Wafi Aminuddin, Afi Aminuddin, Hanif Hamir, Wadud Ramli, Nazry Aiman, Syafiq Safiuddin, Azrin Danial and Amirul Aizad.
It is a first call-up to the senior team for the trio of Indera SC’s Amirul Aizad, DPMM FC II Azrin Danial and Kasuka FC’s Wafiq Danish.
The midfielders include experienced Azwan Saleh, Hariz Herman, Naziruddin Ismail, Alinur Rashimy, Faturrahman Embran, Amin Sisa and Syafiq Hilmi.
Syafiq, who played an instrumental role in Kasuka FC’s charge to the Brunei Super League title, earned his first call-up to the senior team.
The team has been armed with three forwards namely Asri Aspar, Adi Said and Hariz Danial.
Adi made a return to the national team having last made an appearance during the World Cup qualifiers against Indonesia.
The national team will be led by head coach Vinicius Eutropio, who was appointed in late 2024. – FADHIL YUNUS
