National resilience against drug misuse is not a task for individuals alone; it is the duty of an entire nation, said His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen yesterday.
His Royal Highness said this in a recorded sabda video to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) at the Indera Samudra Grand Hall of The Empire Brunei.
His Royal Highness highlighted, “Drug misuse is a problem which sadly, affects our community today. It fuels criminality, making everyone less safe and it steals the futures of young people who follow a path that leads from recreation to addiction.
“We must ensure young people are able to resist the pressures around drug misuse and embrace the positive alternatives. Feeling the thrill of exercise and healthy living.
Experiencing the fulfilment that comes from connections with family and friends,” His Royal Highness added.
To conclude, His Royal Highness’ message was “creating a safer, healthier, and more promising future for everyone”.
Organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the event also featured a forum themed ‘Memperkasa Masyarakat Masa Depan Tanpa Dadah’.
NCB Director Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Zalani bin Haji Ismail said the theme “invites all parties to take proactive steps in educating, supporting and building a society that is resilient against drug abuse. It is a call to shape the next generation for the better, where individuals and communities can live harmoniously and free from the negative effects of drug abuse”.
The director added that the sabda was important, “especially for youth in intensifying the fight against drugs by calling for an active and creative lifestyle, spending time with religious, welfare, family and community activities for the well-being of the country in the future”.
He said the gathering was not only to mark the IDADAIT, but also to remind everyone of their responsibility in tackling drug-related threats.
He explained that drug misuse is a global issue with deep impacts on individuals, families and communities, destroying lives and threatening safety.
Education and awareness, he noted, are key tools in preventing drug misuse. By sharing knowledge about its dangers, future generations can be protected.
Following the launch of the video, a special forum was held, featuring panellists Adjunct Professor Dr Haji Mohd Rozan bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos and Datuk Dr Zafari bin Zulkifli and Dr Zulhilmi bin Haji Jaidin as the moderator.
