Junior tennis players are showcasing their skills over the three-day National Junior Tournament 2024 which began yesterday at the National Tennis Centre in Bandar Seri Begawan.
One of the participating players is Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, who is competing in the Red Ball category for ages six to eight (coed/mixed) and Orange Ball category ages eight to 10 (coed/mixed).
Other categories include Green Ball for ages 10 to 12 (coed/mixed) and Yellow Ball for ages 10 to 12 and 18 and under (coed/mixed). Finals will be held tomorrow afternoon.
The tournament is part of the Brunei Darussalam Tennis Association’s (BDTA) strategic roadmap to tennis development in the country.
National level junior tournaments are held three times a year to serve as platforms to select junior tennis players for country representation in regional competitions, according to the BDTA.
On the sidelines, a Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) open clinic is also being held for under 12s, hosted by the BDTA and managed and supported by International Tennis Federation (ITF) certified coaches and BDTA acknowledged coaches – to undergo certification.
The JTI open session will be held tomorrow from 4-6pm.
