    National badminton tournament champions crowned

    Honey Carsmart team emerged champions of the National League Badminton Tournament 2023 after collecting 33 points from 11 games while Honey Carsmart Stingers took second spot with 30 points and Mavericks in third with 24 points.

    Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud presented the prizes.

    The champions walked away with a trophy, BND1,000 prize money, medals and Yonex rackets, while the runner-up received BND800, a medal and a Yonex racket and second runner-up received BND600, a medal and a racket bag.

    The tournament was conducted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings over six weeks using a 12-team format at the Riadah Hall of the Youth Centre in the capital beginning February 3.

    The final matches involved teams Ababil and Mavericks and Dewan An Nur and Honey Carsmart Stingers.

    Five categories were contested – men’s doubles 20 years and under; double men’s veterans 50 years and older; men’s doubles 35 years and above; open women’s doubles, as well open men’s tournament involving almost 180 players.

    The tournament was the second edition held since 2020 and was organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association (PBKBD) in collaboration with the Youth and Sports Department, MCYS and sponsored by Yonex Sunrise and Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC).

    Also present was MPC representative Lyu Guoli.
