National Al-Quran reading competition for youth begins

The preliminary stage of the National Level Al-Quran Reading Competition for youth for 1445 Hijrah began yesterday. The three-day competition is held at the Youth Centre in the capital.

The competition has 45 male and 23 female readers. The top 30 participants with a mark reaching 80 per cent and above will compete in the semi-final stage on Sunday.

From the 30 participants, five male and female Al-Quran readers will compete in the finals on June 6.

This is an annual project of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, coordinated by the Youth and Sports Department since the 1980s. The competition has produced Al-Quran readers capable of competing at a higher level. The Al-Quran reading is a platform for youth to showcase their talents.

Prior to the competition, participants enrolled in an Al-Quran skills acquisition workshop for two days to fine-tune their Al-Quran reading skills, emphasising on important aspects like voice, Tajwid, Fasahah and tone. – Azlan Othman
