The preliminary rounds for the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Youth for 1444 Hijrah/2023 began yesterday at the Youth Centre in the capital.
Fifty-four qari and 46 qariah are vying for spots in the semi-final round through the four-day competition organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The top 30 participants with scores of 80 per cent and above will qualify for the semi-finals on June 11.
The top five qari and qariah from the semi-final, alongside champions from 2022, will compete in the finals on June 22.
The competition is an annual event organised by the ministry since 1980. It has served as a platform to help young Al-Quran readers to be able to compete at higher levels, while also showcasing their ability in the field of Al-Quran reading with tarannum.
Eligible participants are those aged between 15 and 30, citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam who have not won on international Al-Quran reading competitions.
