The MABIMS Centre for Al-Quran Studies and Dissemination hosted the National Al-Quran Memorisation and its Understanding Competition for 1446 Hijrah at the International Convention Centre, Berakas yesterday.
The two-day competition nurtures Al-Quran memorisers who excel in recitation and understanding.
A total of 25 participants qualified for the finals after scoring 75 per cent and above in the preliminary and semi-final stages, and qualified for the final round.
On the first day, 20 participants competed in categories ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ covering memorisation from one juzuk to 15 juzuk with comprehension of selected surahs.
The competition continues tomorrow with category ‘E’, followed by a token presentation to the participants and judges.
Acting Director of Prisons at the Ministry of Home Affairs Bahrin bin Mohammad Yassin attended the event, which began with Surah Al-Fatihah recitation by Yusairi bin Asbol from Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. – Fadley Faisal
