Myanmar to celebrate floating water festival

YANGON (XINHUA) – Myanmar will hold a floating Thingyan festival, also known as the floating water festival, in Inle Lake of Shan state, an official from the Shan State said on Wednesday.

“The floating Thingyan festival will be held from April 13 to April 16 in Inle Lake of Nyaungshwe township in Shan state,” official from the Shan State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism Daw Aye Thida Tun told Xinhua.

The four-day celebration aims at attracting tourist arrivals in the Inle area, promoting the floating water festival and boosting the region’s economy through tourism, she said.

The distinctive feature of the floating water festival is to splash water to each other in boats and the first floating Thingyan festival was held in 2019.

The 489,721-hectare Inle Lake, located in the southern Shan State, is one of the major tourist sites in Myanmar.
