Musical talent, community spirit showcased

The annual music review, ‘Go Forth with a Song’, not only showcased the musical talents and hard work of the students, but also how connected the school community is, Jerudong International School (JIS) Principal Nicholas Sheehan said during the programme held at the JIS Arts Centre yesterday.

He added, “It’s heartening to see our students collaborate so well across year levels.”

The programme saw some 125 singers and instrumentalists from Years 4 to 13 performing a range of music, including well-known pop and jazz standards, instrumental numbers, traditional music performed on the gulingtangan, as well as original pieces composed by JIS music students. There were also select performances from the most recent senior school production of We Will Rock You.

The JIS tech team, led by Jon-Mark Nesbitt, along with technicians and student volunteers, illuminated the Arts Centre with lights to create a vibrant atmosphere.

Head of music Julian Jarvis commented, “None of this could be achieved without the unwavering support from the teaching, visiting instrumental tutor and support staff colleagues that work tirelessly with our students to enable such a high level of performance.”

Local schools were invited to attend both performances, adding to the sense of community spirit and fostering connections between schools and students across the Sultanate.
