Musical showcase teaches lessons of self-acceptance

International School Brunei (ISB) held its first showing of SHREK: The Musical on Wednesday evening at the ISB theatre.

The school’s production, based on the musical adaptation of DreamWorks Animations’ Shrek (2001), features a cast and crew of some 200 students from ISB.

Shrek is a tale about an ogre who lives by himself in a swamp.

His precious solitude is shattered by a large group of annoying fairy-tale characters who plead for his help to save their home from the egotistical Lord Farquaad.

It is a story of friendship, of love and learning acceptance of yourself for who you are.

Head of the ISB Arts Faculty Amy Gilroy said “Shrek fever has certainly hit ISB! The buzz and excitement around the school has been amazing. This collaboration is a true testament to our wonderfully supportive ISB community.

“We are so lucky to have such fantastic staff and students to work with to help create such special memories that last a lifetime’.

“The hard work and commitment is truly evident as the talented cast add energy, humour and warmth to their characters, complemented by an incredibly green and well-dressed stage.”
