The Belait District Labour Department recently conducted an operation, dubbed ‘Siaga’, in two areas in Sungai Liang.
The first inspection found an employer, who had violated the conditions of the Foreign Worker’s Licence by assigning a worker employed as a labourer to manning the cashier.
The second inspection found two offences committed by an employer – failing to provide a written service contract and failing to provide first aid equipment.
If found, the employers may each be subjected to a fine of up to BND1,000 for each offence. The failure to pay the fine will result in the employers being produced in court.
The Labour Department reminded employers to always monitor their welfare in accordance with the requirements set by the Employment Order, 2009. Employers are also warned against misusing the Foreign Worker Licence which is a violation under the Employment Order, 2009.
