The Enforcement Division (LED) of the Labour Department recently conducted Operasi Waspada 22/2025 in Kampong Sungai Besar on February 4 to ensure compliance with the Employment Act, Section 278. During the operation, authorities inspected a vehicle security management company operating near the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge and uncovered five violations of the Employment Act. These violations included the employer’s failure to pay wages and overtime, denial of rest days to employees, requiring employees to work on rest days, employees working beyond legally stipulated hours, and failure to grant public holidays as mandated by law.
The Labour Department has launched further investigations into these breaches, and if found guilty, the employer could face a compound fine of up to BND1,000 for each offence.
Failure to pay the fine may result in the employer being brought to court. In a statement, the Labour Department reminded all employers to strictly adhere to the Employment Act, Section 278, which includes timely payment of wages and overtime, granting employees one rest day per week, ensuring employees do not exceed legally mandated working hours, and providing public holidays as stipulated by law.
The department emphasised the importance of employers prioritising the welfare of their workers and complying with labour regulations to avoid penalties.
