Residents from Mukim Lamunin cast their votes via a drive-through to elect the penghulu of Mukim Lamunin at the Balai Raya Kampong Lamunin in Tutong District yesterday.
The sole candidate for Penghulu Mukim Lamunin was 55-year-old Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Tinggal who was a member of the Consultative Council of Kampong Lamunin.
Of the 285 votes, 280 residents voted for Mohd Jaafar, four voted against while one vote was disqualified.
Acting Tutong District Officer, Mohd Amirul Hadi bin Haji Mohd Tajuddin witnessed the voting process.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit was also present.
Mohd Jaafar worked as an assistant officer at the Land Department before retiring from government service.
The result will be forwarded to the Board of Appointment, Discipline and Procedures for Mukim Penghulu and Village Head at the Ministry of Home Affairs for the next step in the selection process.
Meanwhile, voting for the penghulu of Mukim Kiudang and the village heads of Kampong Kiudang and Kampong Pad Nunok will be held on February 18 at the community centre in Kampong Pad Nunok.
On February 20, residents of Kampong Pengkalan Mau, Kampong Bakiau, Kampong Batang Mitus, Kampong Birau, Kampong Kebia and surrounding areas can cast their votes at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Secondary School in Kampong Birau.
Residents of Mukim Kiudang, Kampong Kiudang and Kampong Pad Nunok can register as voters either by using the PMKK-Vote mobile application, tablet (offline voting) or
ballot paper.
Online voting officially starts today and ends on February 15 at 8am for those residing in Kampong Kiudang and Kampong Pad Nunok while residents of Kampong Pengkalan Mau, Kampong Bakiau, Kampong Batang Mitus, Kampong Birau, Kampong Kebia and surrounding areas will end on February 17.
Voting registration forms can be obtained from the acting village heads or at the Tutong District Office before the polling date.
