MUIB receives almost BND300K in zakat funds

Zakat Fitrah totalling BND290,007.08 was collected via Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) QuickPay, DST eZakat, Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) Zakat Fitrah Online Banking and Progresif PAY this year, while BND247,432.57 was collected last year.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman as the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) President received the Zakat Fitrah during a ceremony yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and MUIB Vice President Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, MUIB Secretary Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop, Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BIBD Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman, Managing Director of Perbadanan TAIB Datin Hajah Hasnah binti Haji Ibrahim, DST CEO Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni, Head of Human Resource at Progresif Mohammad Yazdi bin Haji Yahya and other senior officers were also present. The online methods were opened to the public starting 1st of Ramadhan and ended on 28th Ramadhan before Maghrib.

Meanwhile, BIBD in its statement said, a total of BND64,469.26 in Zakat Fitrah was presented that was collected online as of April 30 via BIBD QuickPay.

The initiative, the second year running, is part of BIBD’s drive to encourage customers to ‘Go Cashless Go Digital’, bringing greater convenience to the public as they could fulfil their Zakat Fitrah obligations without the need to physically go to a mosque.

Hajah Noraini said, “Over 5,800 users opted to pay their Zakat Fitrah via BIBD QuickPay, reflecting the growing acceptance and efficiency of cashless payment methods.

“This initiative demonstrated how digital payments can bring greater ease and convenience in various aspects of the society and lifestyle, we are honoured and pleased to have been able to support the Brunei Government, particularly the Ministry of Religious Affairs, on this initiative,” she added.
