Muhd Nazid bin Haji Nudin from the Royal Brunei Airlines Lawn Bowls Club emerged champion of the 3rd Panaga Lawn Bowls Singles Open Championship after defeating Tobias Tahal from the Panaga Lawn Bowls Club 15-6 at the Panaga Lawn Bowls Club Court.

Wisdom Bowls Club duo Nur Uzma Khadijah @ Esmawandy binti Ibrahim and Muhd Hazmi bin Haji Idris settled for third place in the one-day meet.

Panaga Club Sport Division Chair Marc Ripoche presented medals to the winners.

Eighteen participants vied for top honours in the yearly event, including three players from Royal Brunei Airlines Lawn Bowls Club.

Panaga fielded five players all of whom are expatriates who are working in the country from Australia, Scotland and Ireland.

Meanwhile, the Wisdom Bowls Club was represented by 10 players consisting of senior and teenage players.

Jointly organised by the Wisdom Bowls Club and the Panaga Lawn Bowls Club, the meet helped maintain the momentum of athletes, more so after not participating in competitive sporting events for a lengthy period of time due to the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, both organising clubs intend to grow the sport mainly in Belait District.

The Panaga Lawn Bowls Club Court was believed to be the earliest rink that was built in the country by using natural grass as a playing field.

Meanwhile, the 6th WBC-PLBC Pairs Trophy has been scheduled on June 26 at the same venue.
