JOHOR BAHRU (ANN/The Star) – Police have confiscated drugs worth MYR2.6 million and apprehended a 39-year-old local man during a series of operations aimed at a drug syndicate functioning in the city.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the Johor Bahru South district police’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), in collaboration with the Johor NCID, conducted a special operation on Feb 16.
He said the operation, which lasted from 4.30am to 11.15pm, involved four raids at different locations across Johor Bahru.
“The first two raids were conducted at a roadside, while the third and fourth were conducted in two condominiums in Johor Baru and Permas Jaya. In one of the raids, we arrested a 39-year-old local man and seized a significant quantity of drugs. A urine test confirmed the suspect was positive for methamphetamine and checks revealed he had prior drug-related offences,” he said at the Johor police headquarters here yesterday.
He stated that the suspect belongs to a group that has been operating since January using a gated and guarded condominium as a storage and repackaging site for local drug distribution.
Comm Kumar said police are actively searching for a 34-year-old individual named Tan Hua Chiek to help with their investigations.
The seizure includes 15,450.6g of ecstasy powder worth MYR2,580,250, and 55g methamphetamine valued at MYR6,050, with the amount enough to supply 51,777 addicts.
Police also seized various drug-processing and packaging equipment along with a car valued at MYR72,200, and MYR220 in cash.
The total value of assets seized during the special operation stood at MYR2,658,520.
The suspect was charged in court yesterday under Section 39A(1) and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
