GEORGE TOWN (ANN/THE STAR) – Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate with the seizure of MYR6.5mil worth of narcotics destined for Indonesia.
State police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said two local men, aged 20 and 27, were arrested during three raids conducted in central and northern Seberang Perai between 3pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.
“Following the raids, a total of 1,938 packets of MDMA powder weighing about 38kg and valued at MYR6.42mil were seized. Also seized were 24 packets of heroin crystals weighing 6.8kg worth MYR65,000 and two packets of syabu crystals weighing 946 grams worth MYR30,000, as well as a transparent packet of ketamine weighing 50.4 grams, worth MYR10,000. Initial investigations showed the syndicate has been operating since the beginning of the year with the seized drugs capable of supplying about 100,000 doses,” he told a press conference at the state contingent police headquarters in Lebuh Penang on Monday (March 24).
Comm Hamzah said both suspects with several criminal and drug convictions have tested negative for drugs.
They have been remanded for one week until March 29 to assist with investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
