MS ABDB emerged champions of the Brunei Futsal Cup 2022 after defeating Almerez FC 4-2 in the second leg of the final (7-4 in aggregate) at the Ministry of Defence last night.

The victory marked the first time a domestic team has been crowned champions of a major national tournament since Kota Junior lifted the Brunei Futsal League in 2016.

The last installment of the Brunei Futsal League was won by invited Malaysian team Kuantan Rangers prior to the four-year long absence.

The army personnel stormed into the lead to build a two-goal cushion in aggregate after they struck in the seventh minute.

Their lead stretched even further heading into the break after adding two more goals, leaving Almerez an uphill task to climb.

As the clock ticked down, Almerez FC looked to get back into the game but MS ABDB stayed resolute in defence.

The army personnel moved even closer to the prize once Mohammad Safari bin Wahit stepped out to make a crucial block to prevent Almerez of a sight in goal.

Meanwhile, Kasuka Ar Rawda finished in third place after defeating Kota Ranger 14-7 in aggregate.

MS ABDB collected a near-perfect sweep of accolades with Awangku Muhammad Jumatatul Aleshahrezan bin Pengiran Metali winning the Player of the Tournament award, Abu Yazid bin Awang Haji Samah winning the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Abdul Hafiz bin Haji Untong winning the Best Coach of the Tournament.

Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan presented the prizes to the winners.
