Movie shot in space screened to mark Cosmonautics Day

The first feature movie shot by Russian filmmakers in space, The Challenge, was screened at a celebration marking Cosmonautics Day, hosted by the Russian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam at its premises yesterday.

The film, the first of its kind, showcased actors shot in space, telling a story of a surgeon sent to space to help an injured cosmonaut.

“The Cosmonautics Day is a milestone celebration that altered the course of human history as it commemorates the anniversary of the first manned spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin aboard Vostok 1 on April 12, 1961,” said Russian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mikhail Vladimirovich Baranov during his welcoming remarks at the event.

“As we reflect on this historic achievement, we also look towards the future of space exploration. As we honour Yuri Gagarin’s historic flight and the achievements of the Russian space programme, let us reaffirm our commitment to the noble ideals of exploration, cooperation, and the peaceful use of outer space,” he added.

The movie screening also included a photo exhibition on the Russian Orbital Station. – Lyna Mohamad
