Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO Voctech) and ASEAN Future Workforce Council (AFWC) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and human resource development.
It also covers collaboration with industry partners on digital and sustainable development as well as training programmes.
The MoU was inked at the same event that saw the opening ceremony of focus group discussion for research project on ‘The Readiness of TVET Institutions for IR4.0 in Southeast Asia’.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof officiated the event at Seri Kerna Hall, SEAMEO Voctech yesterday.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Chin Wei Keh was also in attendance.
SEAMEO Voctech Centre Director Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar signed on behalf of the centre while AFWC was represented by Chairman Dato’ Palaniappan Joseph.
The event saw a presentation by the AFWC chairman.
The focus group discussion is a follow up of an ongoing research by nine participating SEAMEO member states that was approved by the 4th SEA-TVET High Officials Meeting (HOM) to assess the readiness of TVET institutions for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).
It saw 25 participants comprising 14 from the private sector and 11 from institutions of higher learning in the Sultanate.
The guest of honour and guests were briefed on SEAMEO Voctech’s SEA-VET Learning Platform and Smart Lab as well as courses using augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies.
