MoU signed on scholarships for Timor-Leste students

Daikyo Industrial Gas and Equipment Unipessoal Lda, a Brunei company in Timor-Leste will offer a full scholarship Diploma in Hospitality for its September 2024 intake at Laksamana College of Business (LCB) for two Timor-Leste students following the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) yesterday.

Managing Director of Daikyo Industrial Gas and Equipment Unippesoal Lda Hung Ah Hing, who is also the Managing Director of Daikyo Industrial Gas Sdn Bhd in Brunei Darussalam inked on the dotted line. Director General for Higher Education and Science at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture Maria Filomena Lay Guterres. signed on behalf of the Timor Leste government.

The scholarship sponsor offer is a token of appreciation from the company to the Timor-Leste government for the support over the years.

“As one of the very first foreign enterprise to set up business in Timor-Leste, we at Daikyo took our first step into venture into an unknown territory 22 years ago as you took your first towards independence,” said Hing in his speech.

“Today after 22 years, we see the results of both perseverance as your country in now ready to take your next giant step forward towards prosperity,” he said.

“We would like to take this opportunity to further enhance our contributions to the country by establishing the Sponsorship of the Higher Learning Programme for Timorese students, the aspiring leaders of the country,” he added.

Timor-Leste Minister of Higher Education, Science and Culture Dr Jose Honorio Da Costa Periera Jeronimo, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Timor Leste Wan Hadfi Lutfan bin Haji Abdul Latif and Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Brunei Darussalam Abel Guterres were present at the event. – James Kon
